summer travel hawaii camp

Overview

Summer In HAWAII: Aloha - Beaches - Volcanoes . . . Bold Earth's most popular summer trip! Full of sun, adventure, culture and amazing sights.

LEARN TO SURF: A CLASSIC HAWAIIAN PASTIME

Enjoy three days of surfing on the legendary Kona Coast, as we learn from professional guides who take us to beaches perfect for beginners and more experienced surfers. After mastering Hawaii's favorite pastime, we snorkel, enjoy beach time, and paddle board beside giant sea turtles, vibrant coral reefs and exotic marine life. Topping it all, native Hawaiians teach us the ancient island sport of outrigger canoeing aboard authentic Polynesian sailboats! Experience all of Hawaii on Bold Earth's Hawaii Teen Trip!

SAIL WITH DOLPHINS & EXPLORE VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Our water adventures continue as we harness the winds of the Kohala Coast, sailing alongside spinner dolphins and stopping at incredible beaches and reefs to snorkel. In Volcanoes National Park, a night hike leads us to views of glowing lava, and we explore an amazing Green Sand beach at the southern point of the Island. We also work with Park Rangers to eradicate invasive species and give back to this incredible ecosystem. We then drive to an observatory atop the 13,000-foot Mauna Kea volcano! From above the clouds, we experience incredible star gazing through some of the world’s most powerful telescopes. A unique experience on Bold Earth's Hawaii Teen Camp.

WAIMANU VALLEY: BACKPACK & CULTURAL EXCHANGE

We head into the tropical valleys of Northwest Hawaii for the backpacking and cultural exchange section of Bold Earth's Hawaii summer camp. In the historic Waipio Valley, we stay with a native Hawaiian family on their beautiful Taro farm before loading up our packs for a three-day trek on the lush Muliwai Trail. Our spectacular hike leads us through lush rain forests to secluded Waimanu Valley, ripe with mango trees, towering waterfalls, and the island's longest black sand beach!

MARINE BIOLOGY SERVICE PROJECT: 2 DAYS

Beautiful Kahalu'u bay is our home for two days of experiential learning, marine biology, snorkeling, and community service. Kahalu'u is famous for spectacular coral reefs and exotic marine life, including an abundant sea turtle population. Working closely with experienced marine biologists, we spend our days in the water, collecting ocean data, snorkeling, and learning hands-on about reef ecology. By the end of our training, we are certified to educate visitors about human impacts on marine environments across the globe. Our last night brings us to Kona, where we celebrate our incredible journey and the amazing bonds we have formed with an authentic Hawaiian Luau, exclusively for Bold Earth!
