Amy Nieuwsma

In Amy's world, life is one continuous road trip. Amy's trip began in 1999 when she delivered newspapers to her neighbors via moped. She liked the feeling of the wind in her air, the open road and providing a service to others. This desire lead her to work as an instructor for a juvenile wilderness therapy program in Minnesota, volunteer for three months in Tanzania and later work as a teen program director for the Boys and Girls Club. Having done a NOLS semester course in Australia, Amy wanted to share her love for experiential learning with others, so she became certified in Wilderness Advanced First Aid, CPR, and lifeguarding before joining Bold Earth. Amy has led the Ultimate Alaska, Rock n' Roll and Boot Saddle Paddle trips, and is looking forward to leading Ultimate Colorado this summer. Let the adventures begin!

What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Friendship. Growth. Diversity. Fun. Fellowship. Laughter. Adventure. Being unplugged. Good food. Sunshine. Rain. Teamwork. Bonfires. Learning. And everything epic. Every year I look forward to my summer at Bold Earth. There is never a dull moment when 13 people from all over the world meet in the same place, cram into a 15 passenger van, and share life together.

Favorite Contradictions: Less e-mail // More dialogue. Less answers // More questions. Less Machine-made // More hand-made. Less judgement // More acceptance. Less triangle // More cowbell.

What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: A typical week usually consists of making orange mocha frappuccinos at a local coffee shop, screen printing t-shirts with high school kids, coaching an elementary boys running program, going to potlucks, working on an 1,000 piece puzzle, designing, and playing penny can with friends in the back yard. On the weekends you may find me perched on a dune in my hammock above Lake Michigan. The next week I might be hiking the Redwoods in California.
