According to Mork family lore, the legend of Andy began in kindergarten when his teacher remarked, "Your son is a natural leader." Her prophetic words proved true, as Andy later captained his track and state champion football teams in high school, and his rugby team team in college. At the same time, Andy brought his leadership experience into the outdoor setting by working at summer camps in Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest and North Milwaukee. Andy's counselor jobs gave him the opportunity to work with children with developmental disabilities, lead high ropes courses, and coordinate multi-week wilderness trips. Andy recently acquired his Wilderness First Responder degree, and can't wait to bring his love of teaching and the outdoors to Bold Earth for the summer of 2011!
What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Bold Earth gives us a chance to use travel and exploration as a catalyst to learn and grow in a fun, safe and challenging environment. Seeing the world is essential in becoming well-rounded and learning many necessary life skills. I'm grateful that Bold Earth gives me and my students the chance to further explore, both in the United States and abroad!
Favorite Quote: "I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well. I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been." -David J. Matthews
What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: I'm out in the open air and on the road traveling to beautiful places and foreign countries to hike the peaks and valleys, paddle the crystal waters, climb the grandiose boulders and experience the food and music. After coming home, working and resting, I strap up the backpack and start the cycle back over again, learning and loving all the while.
