Brian Beer

Brian grew up in the woodland paradise of New Jersey and has been living in Colorado for the past six years. In high school, Brian's life changed when he enrolled on Bold Earth's Boot Saddle Paddle trip. He had such a great experience in Utah and Arizona that he decided to come west to the University of Colorado for college and return to Bold Earth as a leader after graduating. Before joining the full-time office team, Brian lived in Durango, CO, wrote for Bicycling Magazine and Backpacker Magazine, hiked 300 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia and travelled to southern Mexico for six weeks. Brian is a certified Wilderness First Responder and NOLS graduate. Aside from leading Bold Earth trips, Brian co-led trips with the Otago University Tramping Club while studying abroad in Dunedin, New Zealand. Brian combines his vast experience, sound judgment and fun-loving attitude to create an enriching and exciting environment on his Bold Earth trips. Brian is thrilled to be a part of Bold Earth and can't wait for summer 2011!

What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Having been a Bold Earth camper, trip leader and full-time director, I know the full spectrum of Bold Earth's transformative power. Bold Earth gives young adults the chance to make new friends from across the world while being inspired by the coolest leaders and most amazing natural settings on the planet. I can't think of a better way for teenagers to feed their curiosity for new places, experience indepedent and responsible lifestyles, and begin the transition to adulthood. Bold Earth is the best!

Favorite Quote: "I love you, pretty darling...but I always take the long way home." -Tom Waits

What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: When not working, you'll find me: suffering patiently for the New York Mets, playing guitar in bands around Denver, hurling myself into swimming holes, sailing through powder at Vail, running long distances so I can eat monster meals, watching old movies, reading James Crumley books, spending quality time with the family, slapping high-fives with my best buds, feverishly hunting for Dairy Queen Blizzards, playing some classic New Jersey-style stickball and generally doing whatever it takes to ensure that I and everyone around me is having the best time possible.
