Matt Malone

Matt is originally from Connecticut, and graduated from the University of Vermont in '08. After graduation, Matt spent the '08-'09 school year teaching Algebra I and English in the Federated States of Micronesia on the island of Pohnpei. Matt has spent the past two winters living in Lake Tahoe, CA teaching snowboarding and spending the majority of his free time touring in the backcountry on his split board. Matt began his outdoor leadership experience as the teacher in charge of the environmental action club at his local high school in Micronesia, coordinating and leading a series of outdoor trips geared toward environmental awareness and education. Matt then went on to get his Wilderness First Responder certification, and led his first Bold Earth trip last summer. Matt's energy and positivity allows him to motivate his campers so they get the most out of their adventure.

What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Bold Earth has allowed me to combine two of my biggest passions, the outdoors and working with teens. I feel very fortunate to be in a position of leadership for such a prestigious organization, and to lead a group of teens on an amazing adventure. The ability to lead teens and give them the tools necessary for personal growth and progress is very rewarding. I connect with the Bold Earth motto "personal growth through exploration", and I am very lucky to help facilitate this growth for the youth participating.

What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: I have spent the last two winters living in Lake Tahoe, enjoying all the high Sierra has to offer. I love to snowboard, surf, hike, and travel. My greatest passion is experiencing new cultures, and I will be leaving to teach in Japan at the end of the summer. I try to make the chapters of my life as memorable and interesting as possible.

Education: The University of Vermont: B.A. in Political Science
