Nasser Rihan

Nasser grew up in the Midwest, but currently teaches outdoor environmental science near Big Bear Lake in Southern California. From high school through college Nasser has studied the outdoors and the science behind it. Since graduating college, Nasser has worked for Georgia 4H doing environmental education as well as working for his local metropark summer camp. Since moving out West to California, Nasser has been doing as much adventuring as possible. Whether rock climbing in Joshua Tree or backpacking in Zion, Nasser is always ready to tackle a new challenge in a new place. Nasser loves sharing his passion for the environment and adventure with his students, and takes a genuine, active and personal interest in each member of the team. He is incredibly thrilled to be leading Boot Saddle Paddle this summer!

What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Bold Earth gives me the chance to continue doing the things I consider most important in life. To my participants and me, Bold Earth provides the opportunity to explore, learn as much as possible and see the world, while leading to self-discovery and personal growth along the way.

Favorite Quote: "Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. A civilization which destroys what little remains of the wild, the spare, the original, is cutting itself off from its origins and betraying the principle of civilization itself." -Edward Abbey

What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: During the school year I am an outdoor science school teacher. I am lucky to live in the mountains 25 minutes from a ski resort town. My days consist of hiking with students around the San Bernardino National Forest, learning about its plants and animals and showing students a side of the outdoors they have never been previously exposed to. I enjoy adventuring as much as possible when I'm not working and love to travel and see new things.

Education: University of Toldeo, B.A> in Environmental Studies
