Rachel's outdoor leadership experience began at Northwestern University with Alternative Student Breaks (ASB), an organization that sends groups of student volunteers to project sites all around the world. After volunteering for five ASB trips, serving two years on the executive board and working as ASB President for one year, Rachel believes her experience with the organization has vibrantly colored her worldview and kindled a life-long apprecation of service and leadership! Her passion for working with youth has been fostered by leading trips with multiple service-learning organizations, as well as through her summers volunteering as a camp counselor. Rachel can't wait to continue her already strong outdoor leadership career by working as a Bold Earth trip leader!
What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Bold Earth is an incredible opportunity to share the outdoors with my participants, meet new people, and see the world. As a trip leader, I am committed to helping my participants take advantage of this unique chance to learn about the world and themselves through Bold Earth.
Favorite Quote: "Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends." -Maya Angelou
What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: These days I do a lot of reading to prepare for my next year living in Chile, where I'll be researching public health interventions. I love taking pictures, playing guitar (or at least attempting to play guitar), and cooking for family and friends. If you ever see me gazing off into the distance, I'm probably dreaming up outrageous travel plans or pondering some silly question (Did the chicken or the egg come first? Do cats really always land on their feet?).
Education: Northwestern University, B.A. in Anthropology, minor in Global Health
