Sarah Bonte

Sarah is one of Bold Earth's longest-tenured and most-beloved leaders. Sarah grew up in Minnesota and quickly left the flatlands, heading west to explore Bozeman, Montana. Her desire to play and live a healthy lifestyle led her to earn a teaching degree in Health Enhancement. Following Montana, she moved to the famed North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, where she has spent the past 8 years. Sarah is certified in Wilderness First Responder and Lifeguarding. She is an outgoing, patient and caring role model for teens, committed to making sure that campers have a fun, worthwhile experience in a safe environment. This is Sarah's eighth summer with Bold Earth. She has led trips in Colorado, Utah, Italy, Switzerland, France, Costa Rica, Spain, Greece and Africa. She is thrilled to be leading Costa Rica Intensive and Bold West in the summer of 2011!

What BOLD EARTH means to me?: Leading for Bold Earth literally means the WORLD to me. It has exposed me to amazing places, peoples and experiences, both physical and mental. I have always had a love of nature, but through BOLD EARTH am now able to share my passion with teenagers who are unfamiliar with the outdoors. I believe that now, more than ever, it's of utmost importance to take kids out of everyday life and bring them into the simplicity and beauty of the natural world. I feel proud and fortunate to know I've impacted over 150 lives by working for this company alone. The experience is as rewarding for me as it is for the students, because I am able to serve as a role model unlike any other coach, teacher or parent that my students may have known. It is so gratifying to see how much some of the kids change after a trip. This truly is the ultimate job!

What I do when I'm not at BOLD EARTH: Surfing has taken over my life! My other passions include playing the violin and mandolin, practicing yoga, working on my photography and traveling. My most exciting adventure was when I travelled through South America for six months in the winter of 2008. A typical day for me involves riding my beach cruiser to yoga, sipping a cup of iced coffee while checking the waves, surfing, eating fresh fish and mangoes, taking my dogs to play at the beach, surfing some more, then riding my moped to work.
