Four Reasons Why You Should Visit the Swiss Alps
When choosing to embark on a teen travel adventure trip with Bold Earth, the immediate draw to our Alps excursions is the opportunity to hike around Mont Blanc through stunning scenery. While the highlight of this trip is the multi-day trek through the Alps, it’s not the only reason to choose this adventure. Let’s take a look at four compelling reasons why you should visit this unique area.
The Scenery
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the scenery on this trip is absolutely stunning. It commands your attention as you hike through the Alps. As we trek a section of the Tour du Mont Blanc, which happens to be the most famous trail in Europe, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the alpine views of Mont Dolent, Grand Combin, Aravis Massif. From meadows filled with wildflowers to snowfields and hanging glaciers, this hike has it all.
The Culture
Aside from the mountain views, you’ll also get the chance to hike through several European alpine villages. As we trek through, you’ll get to meet the locals and experience their cuisine like meats, cheeses, and so much more. On the multi-day trek through the Alps you’ll hike through France, Switzerland, and Italy, getting to experience three countries in one week of hiking.
The Hiking & Canyoneering
Naturally, this is one of the biggest draws for most of our young travelers on this adventure. Throughout the trip, we’ll hike for the majority of the day and go from hut to hut (our accommodations during this part of the trip are beautiful mountain huts) with light backpacks as we make our way through the Alps. You’ll also get the opportunity to camp for several nights in relative comfort (with access to hut facilities).
In addition to hiking, you’ll also get an opportunity to go canyoneering outside of Chamonix. A long-time Bold Earth favorite, canyoneering is a mix of scrambling and rappelling. You’ll navigate your way through narrow canyons and over bridges and waterfalls with the help of professional mountain guides. Canyoneering is one of the highlights of this trip.
The Whitewater Rafting
Whitewater rafting likely isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of venturing forth into the Alps. While we have it listed here last, it’s actually the first thing you’ll do on our Alps trips. The day after you arrive, you and your fellow students will whitewater raft the Arve River in Chamonix. Gear up for the class III rapids the Arve River will throw at you and try not to get too wet.
