June grew up exploring the desert in southwest New Mexico, and has a deep love for the wilderness. Growing up they spent extensive time backcountry camping, rafting, and skiing. Their travels have taken them throughout the Southwest and Great Lakes regions, and to other countries including Mexico, Switzerland, Costa Rica, and Belize. While they are at school they help run the outdoor equipment room and lead weekend trips for other students including, backpacking, whitewater canoeing, and rock climbing. Last summer they spent three weeks leading a sea kayaking trip in the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron. This is their first summer with Bold Earth and they are very excited to share their passion for the outdoors.

 

The Deeper Dive

What drew you to the Bold Earth community?

I am joining Bold Earth this summer because I have a passion for helping to get kids outside so they can build their confidence and create meaningful relationships with each other and the environment around them. Outdoor spaces have led to some of the most important experiences of my life, it is my hope that I can facilitate that experience for other people. The skills you learn from adventuring remain applicable to other life experiences, and my goal is to help kids develop these skills for themselves.

 

What is your Bold Earth superpower?

My superpower is definitely my problem solving skills. Anything from a missing tent stake to group conflict, I am ready to work through a solution and help others work through the process alongside me. I am always ready to rig something out of any materials available, and love repairing gear.

 

What is your adventure must-have?

One of my must-have items are my mini binoculars. More portable than a full size pair, I love to travel with them (even if they are far from being ultralight). Whether looking at birds in the distance or bugs up close, I use these almost every day when on trail. They also double for scouting camp sites in the distance!

 

What song would you add to the van playlist?

‘Run Wild’ by Twain and The Deslondes. This song is one of my favorites and feels like the perfect adventuring song, and great for any road trip.
