Arrive: Paris, France (CDG)
Depart: Barcelona, Spain (BCN)

As the name suggests, this is the ultimate teenage tour of Europe! We’ll travel through Italy, Switzerland, France, and Spain on train, foot, and bicycle. We’ll combine outdoor adventure—like kayaking, whitewater rafting, and hiking—with culturally rich sightseeing in museums, charming villages, and ancient ruins. Host families will teach us to make local cuisine, and you’ll have plenty of time to practice many languages other than English.

Explore Paris' historical sites

Spend three magical days touring monuments in the City of Lights! We’ll have a picnic in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower before exploring Montmarte, a village on a large hill outside Paris. Walk up to the white-domed Basilica of Sacré-Cœur on the village summit, and revel in the rich history of the artists who have worked within its walls. We’ll visit Notre-Dame, a medieval Catholic cathedral whose initial construction dates back 800 years. Gaze in admiration at the stained glass windows, up-to-13-ton bells, and the 226-foot-tall twin towers.

Travel to the Swiss Alps

Our next stop takes us to Interlaken, a town nestled in the Bernese Highlands of the Swiss Alps. Enjoy three days of hiking, whitewater rafting, and canyoneering in this breathtakingly beautiful town. Sandwiched by Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, Interlaken offers countless touring and outdoor activities, like hiking on glaciers, swimming or boating in the green and blue lake waters, visiting museums and castles, and much more.

Tour Rome's most famous monuments

We’d be remiss not to spend a few days in the Eternal City! In Rome, we’ll tour the colossal Colosseum, the largest amphitheater ever built. Wander through the Roman Forum and feel its rich history enveloped in the ruins surrounding the plaza. We’ll walk around Vatican City, the smallest country in the world and the only country in the world to be designated as a UNESCO heritage site in its entirety. Later, we’ll see the beautifully preserved Pantheon, first built as a temple to all gods. Silently admire the oculus in the ceiling and the famous artist’s Raphael’s paintings on the walls. Next up is the eight-stories-tall Leaning Tower of Pisa, known for its prominent tilt. Did you know that because of the area’s marshy subsoil that there are other nearby buildings that “lean”?

Soak up the French Riviera

Traverse the Mediterranean coast of the Côte d’Azur, an area frequented by royalty and famous acclaimed artists and writers. Picture-perfect beaches, colorful villages, and sparkling blue water await as we adventure through Nice by both foot and bike tour. We’ll take a side trip to Monaco, home to the Grand Prix race and filming site to three James Bond movies!

Experience Barcelona culture

A short flight will bring us from Nice to Barcelona, where we’ll spend our next few days falling in love with Spain. A walking tour will acquaint us with the city’s world-renowned Gaudí architecture, vibrant culture, and bustling markets. Barcelona is also home to the Museu Picasso, Museu d’Historia de Catalunya, and Parc Guell, another Gaudí work. We’ll participate in an authentic tapas-inspired cooking class alongside migrant youth before heading to the incredible Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família—or Sagrada Família for short. One of the most prominent and remarkable Gaudí works in history, this basilica has remained under construction since 1882, as Gaudí unfortunately passed away before it could be finished.

Stay with host families in Sitges

Immerse yourself in the artistic culture of Sitges, the “Jewel on the Mediterranean.” Walk through its narrow streets  and enjoy typical Catalan dishes made with freshly caught seafood, olives, homemade pasta, and even anchovies! The next several days will be spent relaxing on world-class beaches, stand-up paddleboarding, touring the city on a bicycle, and sea kayaking.

Visit the Museo del Prado

Our last adventures will take place in Madrid, where we’ll visit the Museo del Prado, which houses an incomparable collection of European art. We’ll finish our day in the rectangular, cobbled Plaza Major, which was once known for the crownings of kings, bullfights, and even public executions.

Whitewater rafting

Lauren, student from santa Rosa Beach, FL

My favorite part of the trip was climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, whitewater rafting and
canyoning in the Alps, hiking in Rapollo, and walking around Barcelona with just our maps. I also liked seeing all of the monuments in every city!

Veronica, student from Bainbridge Island, WA

I loved getting to try new things! I saw so many things with such cool people that I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. I loved meeting new people and getting to become
almost family with them. I also loved Switzerland, Rapallo, Sitges, and Madrid.

Jaclyn, student from Coral Gables, FL

My favorite part was befriending others on my trip, getting to know them, and growing close with them. I also really enjoyed the whitewater rafting, kayaking, and giant paddleboarding. Sitges in general was a highlight. I had many of my best memories ever on Bold Earth trips.
