Update from students Harrison, Jasper, and Taylor: Yesterday morning, we woke up at 6:30 a.m. After packing up our tents we got together for a breakfast of fruit and bagels! Before getting on the road, we made a quick stop at Walmart to pick up some gear Casey and Weston had forgotten. After fueling up we hit the road, headed to Utah. The drive was a grueling five hours, but Spencer slept through the first two. As we neared Utah, the landscape changed from imposing mountains and pine forests to dry, scrubby red rock canyons and mesas. We arrived at the rafting site and had a quick lunch. Spencer and Joey opted to take the “Ducky.” Lauren, Jasper, and Harrison were quick to jump in the cold water to escape the heat. Alana and Taylor paddled and kept the boats going along with Hannah! After a few hours traveling downstream, we settled on a cobble beach for our campsite. The beach was littered with perfect skipping rocks, much to Atreyu’s liking. Sully helped us find a good spot to set up our tents. Our raft guides helped us make a great spaghetti meal, and after cleaning we ended the night circled around a campfire under the stars. Great day one!
