Ultimate Europe begins in Paris - a true highlight of Europe. Staying in the center of Paris, we begin three days of exploring Paris from the Louvre to Versailles and the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. From crepes to croissants, a jam packed three days is a fantastic introduction to Paris! Next, we travel by train to Interlaken, Switzerland for three days of hiking, whitewater rafting and canyoning. Surrounded by the Alps Mountains, we experience the best of Europe's outdoor adventure.

Traveling by train from Interlaken to Milan we stop for a day of sightseeing before making the final journey to Rome, Italy's eternal city! Experiencing the best of Rome in two days we walk our way through the city, of course stopping to sample the local cuisine or to recharge with an espresso. From Rome, we travel to the beach and to Italy's world famous Cinque Terre for three days of beaches, hiking and incredible coastal towns. We then travel the short distance to Nice, France for another beach day before our flying to our final country, Spain!
SPAIN: BARCELONA, BIKING AND BEACHES
Beginning in Barcelona, Spain, we spend the day on a walking tour of this classic city. Home to world-renowned Gaudí architecture, vibrant culture and bustling markets, Barcelona is easy to fall in love with. Visiting La Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas and the cities beaches, Bold Earth experiences the best of Barcelona. Next, we leave Barcelona and travel north into the Pyrenees Mountain city of Girona for three days of biking. Buying Guide: The packing list above is mandatory for your trip; however, the linked items are just shopping recommendations. Backpacks, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads may also be purchased from an outdoor store that has tested gear for varied environments. More generic gear such as mess kits, duffel bags, etc. can be bought relatively inexpensive at Target, Walmart, etc. Feel free to find the gear that suits you and your budget best. The Bold Earth office welcomes and expects questions about packing and equipment!
Travel and Packing Tips: Don't worry about how your backpack is arranged right now. Once you arrive, your Trip Leaders will show you the most efficient way to pack your bag for a multi-day trip. If you have the space for it, a great idea for your airport and travel days is to pack your empty backpacking backpack into your duffel bag. This will reduce your checked bags from two to one.
Spending Money: Bring approximately $75 per week. For most campers this is more than enough. This is for personal expenses and gifts. Unless there is an emergency, Bold Earth will not advance money.
Identification: ID is required when checking in for flights. Bring along a picture ID, library card, school ID or state ID card. Your trip leader will be happy to hold any ID or important documents.
Helmets: Helmets are provided and required for rafting and ice climbing.
Laundry: We visit laundromats weekly. You will wash your own clothes, we provide the suds, coins and know-how. Many participants have identical jeans, socks, hiking boots, etc. A good practice is to put your name on items which are not unique to you.
Trip Journal: Bring along a notebook to record the challenges and successes of your adventure. Forest Service (“USFS”) and National Park Service (“NPS”): Bold Earth is required to notify all participants that, to the extent a court determines USFS and NPS restrictions on waivers of liability apply to Bold Earth as a matter of law, Bold Earth’s liability for negligence may not be waived while you are traveling on those affected lands.
Reading List: The people, places and activities you will encounter on your trip are diverse and incredible. These are a few books offering background information. We suggest you consider reading these books before, during or after your adventure. Also, you might like to read Outside Magazine, Backpacker Magazine, Climbing Magazine, Rock & Ice or Trilogy Magazine, available everywhere. YES, you will be comfortable!
Breakdown: • 20 Nights in Hostels & Bed & Breakfast style hotels
Youth Hostels: Bold Earth carefully selects hostels in Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Nice. We always stay in private rooms with bunk beds. Male campers will stay in one room, female campers in another. We have a key and nobody but Bold Earth is ever in our rooms. Staying in hostels allows the group to stay in the city and fully explore the sights! Explore Europe with the locals.
Ultimate Europe is a carefully crafted trip! Where, how and why we pick each night’s lodging is why you select and put your trust in Bold Earth and we honor that trust.
Community Service is a Bold Earth core value. Bold Earth carefully chooses hands on community service projects that are active, engaging and . . . LIFE CHANGING! All Bold Earth participants will receive a certificate to document their service hours.
Service Credit: 4 Hours
Environmental Clean-Up in Spain!: Bold Europe is an action packed, culturally rich trip – full of UK, Switzerland, France, Spain and Italy! As a core value, every Bold Earth trip includes a service project. In the afternoon of our bike trip we spend an afternoon working with a local environmental organization. In years past, Bold Earth has cleaned trash from a recreational lake area, or helping to maintain trails. Enjoying the beauty of Northern Spain and making the area cleaner is a great part of Bold Earth’s Ultimate Europe trip. Bold Earth campers help restore natural habitat for plants and animals.

Over the last 20 years, Bold Earth has carefully crafted the Ultimate Europe Packing List to include everything a participant needs to be comfortable on the trip. Click to view: Ultimate Europe Packing List for a detailed description of exactly what to bring. Anything not included on the list is provided by Bold Earth.
Checking Bags? On airport day, campers will check the large duffle bag. We recommend using the small daypack as a carry-on. Most airlines do not charge a checked bag fee for international travel. We recommend asking the airline for their specific policy – campers are responsible for checked bag fees.

Bold Earth has a partner office in Europe. A European trip designed, led and managed by Europeans – OF COURSE!
Since 2000, Bold Earth has worked in coordination with a European partner to provide authentic and carefully crafted Bold Earth programs in Europe. The result is a more authentic, action packed trip with real depth and superior content.
People who know Europe know the difference. Interestingly, it is not unusual for one or two Europeans to join a Bold Earth European trip. We consider this the ultimate compliment.
Ultimate Europe travels by train and private vans driven by experienced trip leaders and guides. All travel is carefully planned and coordinated to maximize activities & culture and minimize time spent in the van.
All travel while on Bold Europe is fully included. Please view Ultimate Europe Trip Blogs to get a better idea of travel and day to day activities.
Bold Earth food is awesome! YES the food will be healthy, delicious, local, and fun. Bold Earth emphasizes eating locally – this means learning to cook French, Italian and Spanish food – WOW!
Like all Bold Earth trips we eat healthy, delicious meals. Food should be AMAZING! The group will eat out multiple times – OMG the food is SO good.
We cook our own food as well as enjoy seven meals out (or take-away). Many teens find cooking to be the highlight of the trip! Students cook in teams, learn to plan, shop (at local grocery stores) and cook local dishes.
Most special diets, allergies and food preferences can be accommodated. There will always be plenty of delicious and nutritious food options – the quality of food and the experience of cooking is often a highlight of a Bold Earth trip!
Summer in Switzerland, Italy, Spain and France is perfect. Hot with very little rain. Expect temperatures ranging from 75°F – 100°F (22°C-35°C). Nights are very pleasant.
Yes! The MAJORITY of Bold Earth campers join alone – 85% to be exact. Coming alone allows campers the chance to truly grown and learn independence.
However, some students want to share this experience with their best friend, which is fine. Bold Earth will not allow more than 3 people that know each other in one group.
Since 1976 over 16,000 students from all 50 US states and 55 countries have joined Bold Earth! We encourage you to contact our alumni directly to find out about the quality of our leaders, depth of programing and what a summer with Bold Earth is really like.
We want careful and selective families to choose Bold Earth. Our offerings are only as good as the families who choose Bold Earth Adventures. I LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF!
I had an absolutely amazing time with everybody on Ultimate Europe this summer. We did such amazing things and I feel so lucky to be a part of this! I will never forget all the spectacular memories and activities we did- I learned so much about myself and, obviously, about Europe!
PARENTS, Mary & Ken: Betsy loved her Ultimate Europe trip. Her favorite activity was white water rafting. Her favorite country was France. She really had a terrific time. Thanks so much for all you did to make Betsy's trip terrific.
Ultimate Europe was an amazing experience for me. It made me go so far out of my comfort zone and I loved it. Everyone on the trip became my family. This was probably the best summer of my life!
I wish I had found out about Bold Earth sooner! Ultimate Europe was such a fun, eye-opening experience and this was hands down the best summer of my life. Thank you, Bold Earth!
PARENTS, Benjaporn & Steven: In Benya's own words, "Bold Europe was the best summer experience I have ever had. It was amazing in every way." Benya found all three of her leaders wonderful! They listened well, provided direction and guidance but expected all campers to assume responsibility for their Ultimate Europe experience. All three leaders were experienced and provided good feedback to Benya and members of the group. The leaders successfully created one team that supported each other. Thanks Bold Earth -- you exceeded our highest expectations!
PARENTS, Penny & David: The opportunity to visit the countries, absorb the culture and and experience outdoor sports on Ultimate Europe was unique and memorable. Gail made great friends on the trip and as a group they developed wonderful memories.
LOVED THE TRIP LEADERS!
I enjoyed my experience on Ultimate Europe greatly. I met some really interesting people and loved the trip leaders. I liked how we went around the cities as well as doing adventurous outdoor things. Overall, it was an amazing trip and I had a blast.
I will never forget my Bold Earth summers. I had an amazing summer and Ultimate Europe definitely met my expectations!
VERY WELL ORGANIZED!
PARENTS, Paula: Bold Earth is very well organized with reports nearly every day on the blog. Reading the blog made me feel connected without being a part of the experience. The leaders do a great job in many diverse circumstances with different personalities. They were very professional yet warm and enthusiastic. Excellent supervision and guidance
