INTO THE INCREDIBLE CASCADES
Surrounded by jagged, sky-scraping Cascade peaks, we delve into the backcountry of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness on a four-day backpack trip. Our journey begins with a push to the incredible Spider Meadow — consistently rated as one of the most beautiful places Bold Earth visits! After grabbing incredible alpine views from Spider Gap, we push past turquoise lakes, summer snowfields, emerald green valleys and old growth forests as we discover all the Cascades has to offer!
PADDLE, PADDLE, PADDLE!
Trading backpacks for dry bags, we take to the Skykomish River via raft for an adrenaline-pumping whitewater rafting trip! Our professional instructors will guide us through Class-IV rapids before we camp at private riverside campsites over three days. Moving west to the Pacific, we explore the sparkling San Juan Islands via sea kayak, savoring the salt-sprayed air and hoping for glimpses of sea otters, bald eagles and the elusive Orca Whale. Each day, we’ll move to a new island and camp on secluded Pacific Ocean beaches!
BEACH BACKPACKING & OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK
Taking a ferry from the San Juan Islands, we dive into the lush wonderland of the Olympic Peninsula, rife with old-growth, moss-covered trees. This truly is a magical place, with summer sunlight filtering through dense canopies of leaves to create an absolutely otherworldly environment! After two days of rainforest exploration, we head to the coast for our final adventure — a three-day backpack along the Pacific! Flanked by the ocean on one side and the rainforest on the other, we make our way through pristine wilderness beaches as we savor our last days together. Beach Camping? Check. Beach bonfires? Check. Incredible photos that will blow up your Instagram feed? Check!

YES! Bold Earth knows that Ultimate Northwest campers are looking for adventure.Ultimate Northwest attracts active, adventurous, fun, motivated, independent, mature, and AWESOME campers. That isUltimate Northwest. This will be the greatest adventure you have ever been on!
NO! 10 months of rain and precipitation give way to a stunning SUN KINGDOM in the Pacific Northwest every summer! Will it rain? Sure, maybe, but summers in the Northwest are generally SUNNY AND BEAUTIFUL! Expect daytime temperatures to hover in the low 80s, with cool, starry, clear nights.
YES!!! Bold Earth is all about friendship and fully bonded, fully inclusive groups. And nothing brings out friendships like challenging and fun outdoor activities. After hanging with your teammates 24/7 for 21 straight days, you will feel like you’ve known them forever!
Short answer: FUN! The Park Rangers we work with at Moran State Park are awesome and always find a fun, interesting and worthwhile service project for our groups. In the past we’ve built bridges, built firepits at campsites, worked on trails, removed invasive species, worked on deteriorating campsites, and more. Best of all is that after our day is done, we’ll do a short hike over to Moran Lake, where we’ll cool off with a much-deserved swim!
Ultimate Northwest is a a physically demanding trip, but if you have a good attitude and are a relatively active person, you should be READY TO ROCK! Backpack mileage varies between 4-8 miles per day, and there is no experience required for the kayaking and rafting parts of the trip. Not sure if you can handle the trip? Call us at (303) 526-0806! We’ll help you get a great idea of what the trip will be like.
BOLD EARTH GOES UNPLUGGED! While not every camper loves that before the summer starts, most tell us it was actually one of their favorite parts of the trip! Going unplugged means we have the opportunity to really get in the moment and appreciate our surroundings, activities and company as we explore the best of the rainforests, mountains, rivers and beaches of Washington on Ultimate Northwest!
Can you call home EVER? OF COURSE! Bold Earth trips call home once per week, and you’ll have the opportunity to use your phone at that point.
Well, that’s up to you. You are in charge of what we eat onUltimate Northwest! That’s right — the campers plan the menus and shop for the food. The leaders provide kitchen supervision and help everyone get comfortable cooking while camping. Trailside pizzas? Check. Backcountry quesadillas? Check. Stir fry by the Pacific? Check. Lobster? Steak? Sushi? WHY THE HECK NOT!!! Our menus are as wide and varied and awesome as your imagination allows them to be!
We’ve been doing this for 41 years, and by now we’re pretty good at helping campers pack for their trips. Our packing list includes everything a participant needs to be comfortable in Washington. Click to view: Ultimate Northwest Packing List for a detailed description of exactly what to bring. Anything not included on the list is provided by Bold Earth.
Checking Bags? On airport day, campers will check the large duffle bag and backpack. We recommend using the small daypack as a carry-on. Campers should either bring a credit card or enough cash to check their bags home.
Give Bold Earth a call at 303-526-0806 if you have any questions. The Bold Earth Trip Advisor team is always available to help answer packing questions or provide gear recommendations.
Small group size = SUCCESS!
- Maximum of 13 fun and enthusiastic campers
- 2 adult trip leaders (one male and one female)
Especially on an outdoor adventure trip – group size is incredibly important. Can you imagine camping with 40 people??? Not cool! Small group size allows campers to experience the majesty and solitude of the Pacific wilderness in its true spirit!
Bold Earth campers are leaders who seek independence, responsibility and fun. We know teenagers and we understand that a small group size is ESSENTIAL to camper success – especially onUltimate Northwest. Leadership is a planned part of every day. Everyone has a chance to be Leader of the Day (LOD) and will have the opportunity to step into a leadership role and help to run the trip! The challenges and rewards of Ultimate Northwest bring the unity and bonding of the group together
Absolutely! Bold Earth has spent the last 25+ years perfecting the minute-by-minute details ofUltimate Northwest. Every activity has been reviewed and selected to ensure the best and most balanced experience possible. Whether ice climbing, rafting, sea kayaking or backpacking, we see what the Alaskans see, do what they do and live how they live. This is not a teen tour. This trip is FUN and ADVENTUROUS. Year after year campers come back from Alaska with new found passions in their hearts – for wilderness, for camping and for adventure.
YES, we will teach all skills to empower you to enjoyUltimate Northwest. No Experience is required, just a spirit of adventure and willingness to go for it.
